The PSR-800 EZ Scan Digital Handheld Scanner uses a virtual serial port over the USB connection to communicate with the computer. This serial port is used by the supplied PC Application to do actions such as setting the real time clock, updating the scanner's firmware, and checking the status of the scanner before performing a data transfer to or from the scanner's SD card.
If you are using Windows 2000, or Windows XP prior to SP3, the virtual serial port will not operate properly on your computer. If you are using Windows XP prior to SP3, please see the Windows Update site to upgrade to SP3. If your computer is using windows XP SP3 or later, the driver files required to make the virtual serial port operate correctly have been installed by the operating system.
